Screaming at Walls is an interactive, multi-channel radio broadcast sound sculpture. Ten channels of FM pirate radio broadcast through four large handcrafted speaker arrays, each designed to interact with the resonant acoustic potential of the concrete wall they face.

Visitors are invited to select one of the ten sound composition channels for each of the four radios / speakers, mixing and matching to manipulate the soundscape as their own. Once the sound scape is chosen they are encouraged to walk in front of the sculpture to experience the morphing chaotic sound.

Thematically, the work emerges from the artists’ pure frustration and emotionally charged experiences navigating irreconcilable ethical and political rifts. Particularly with zionist family and former friends.  It’s a response to the ways truths are manufactured, culture and religion are weaponized and appropriated by capitalist, fascist, and imperialist forces to advance military and political agendas. The piece both embodies an unyielding cry for those being denied freedom under military occupation, siege, and genocide as well as a cry to stop those we personally know actively denying and thereby perpetuating this violence.

The sculpture functions as a metaphor for conversations that reach an impasse — moments that can feel like speaking to, or even screaming at, walls. However, the sentiment is not resignation, but deep conviction and sustained belief that persistent cries for liberation will eventually break these wall.

Free Palestine.
